And So It Begins...

I've never done a blog before, so please bear with me. I've thought about it many times, but didn't think that anyone would really be interested. I don't have a "cause" or a relative in the Armed Forces or anything particularly special that enticed me to do this....that is, until I was a part of the 2009 Inauguration of President Obama and Vice President Biden. You see, I'm a tour guide or, more correctly, a Licensed Professional Washington, DC Tour Guide. I spent five days during the Inauguration week working, leading groups of students around this beautiful city for this historic occasion. So many friends and relatives asked me about my experiences that I told them I would write a blog. Now here it is, a month later, and I'm just now getting around to it. It seems like the older I get, the faster time flies. Where did that last month go??

I have a dear friend who just celebrated her first year as a blogger. I check her page once or twice a week and it's fantastic! Perhaps you've seen it -- she goes by the ID of "AirmanMom". She is the one who has really inspired me to take on this project, so I want to thank her publicly for setting the example and being a great friend and role model! If you haven't visited her blog yet, please be sure you do so.

Well, this is the first step. It's a small one, but as we all know, "the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step". I need to get a little bit more of a handle on this blogging thing before I get into it too deeply.

Please stay tuned!

  2. Welcome ! And I hope you find it fun ! It is a great place to journal online and meet neat folks and sometimes get great encouragement.

I have not been to DC for over 30 years. We can't wait for some juicy stories! Do tell.

  3. I read about you on AirmanMom's blog. So here I am saying "Welcome" to the blog world. There is so many different blogs of interest out in cyber space that it means making choices and a schedule as to which ones you decide to be regular readers of. Otherwise, it gets to time consuming, so enjoy your new venture and I will be back in a few days to see what you have decided to post. Have a Beautiful Blogging time.

  4. Hi - welcome to blogging, it really is a fun thing to do. I have been following AirmanMom for several months, she is very inspiring. You have an awesome topic to talk about and I look forward to reading your experiences. I hope to visit Washington DC some day maybe in the next couple of years so through your writings I will have places to look forward to seeing.

Good luck and Congratulations - good choice to blog!

  5. You give tours in our Nation's Capitol? How cool! I'm glad you decided to play around with blogging. I am sure you have some good stories or experiences to share. God Bless America!

  6. "I don't have a "cause" or a relative in the Armed Forces or anything particularly special that enticed me to do this...."

me either. I started blogging (over 800 posts ago---uff) simply because I felt I had a lot to say and no one to say it to...

There are lots of reasons for starting a blog, but what I've seen is that folks always get blessings they never expected from blogging and the community of bloggers that you meet.

So, tally-ho and forward march and always remember

    HAVE FUN!!

    welcome to the blogosphere.

  7. Hi Heart!

Here via your dear friend, AirmanMom. Welcome to the blog-O-sphere. Just wanted to give you a heads up, it can become addictive as heck...

Hey! I'm planning on being in DC near the end of April for the Mil-blog conference. Perhaps we will see you.

    Cheers to an awesome start!

  8. I will be looking forward to a cyber tour of our nations capitol.
Welcome to cyberspace and the wonderful world of blogging!

  9. Welcome to the blogosphere! It's addicting, so watch out - but it's also a wonderfully accepting place full of friendly, caring people.

I love DC - have visited many times over the years and can't wait to go back. I love all the monuments and history and art, but I have to admit: the last time, a couple of years ago with my oldest son, we spent half a day in the Spy Museum and loved it. Looking forward to reading your observations.

  10. Welcome to the blogging world. I look forward to reading your views and opinions.

  11. Heart,

I'm so glad you decided to start a blog. I love DC and have visited there several times. I want to come back and bring my grandson, Brandon, with me. I hope you will tell us about some wonderful things to see and do in the Washington area.

Tell us about the Smithsonian and all the other sights, sounds and fragrances that make Washington what it is-a great city.

Glad that AM sent us over your way.

  12. Welcome to our wonderful world of love and friendship! I will return to read your posts!

  13. Marsha,
